Handling your personal finances easily
We first published this commentary in July of 2009 but it is still a good lesson to heed even today:

Regardless of your personal viewpoint on Michael Jackson, we all can learn from what happened related to his Estate.  Few of us expect to die in an untimely fashion, however many of us will.  Thus, it is imperative that your estate documents are in order; that those you love are provided for in the way YOU intended -- not the way the State you reside in dictates.

Although little is known about the actual content of Mr. Jackson's will, the mere fact that he took time to initial every paragraph of his will (when accepted practice is simply to initial each page) shows he understood the importance of preparing his estate documents to protect those around him.

If you have an estate plan, when was the last time it was reviewed?  Laws change, relationships change, finances change, so a review every three years is important.  If you do not have a will, we can work with your attorney, or suggest an estate attorney to set up the necessary will and/or trusts to protect both you and your loved ones.

All of us can learn from this event, and make sure we too are prepared for the unexpected.
